In my 2020 Member Annual Statement, under the Projected Monthly Retirement Benefit section, it displays a projected benefit amount with the statement, “This projection is based on your 62nd birthday, which is the earliest date to receive full benefits”. In my particular case, this statement is incorrect. As I am a Tier 4 member, the earliest date to receive full benefits is my 55th birthday, as I will have had 30 years of service credit by then. My question is: Does my specific member statement, which applies to me, need to be corrected?

“This projection is based on your 62nd birthday, which is the earliest date to receive full benefits,” is a generalization that applies to the majority of Tier 4 members who will retire at 62 and receive full benefits. Most Tier 4 members, depending on their plan, who retire at 55 with 30 or more years of service can retire with full benefits. However, for specific questions that apply to your own circumstances, please email our customer service representatives using the secure email form on our website (http://www.emailNYSLRS.com). One of them will review your account and respond to your questions. Filling out the secure form allows us to safely contact you about your personal account information.
